Emmanuel’s Story

Emmanuel's Story

Emmanuel, a sharp, happy, playful, and mischievous boy, was 5 years old when he was diagnosed with Wilms’ tumor (cancer of the kidney). Emmanuel loves to sing, dance, jump, climb, and run. Every time he walks into a room, he lights up the place with his antics. He enjoys playing around with friends, especially Inioluwa, a fellow cancer survivor, and he loves to play pranks.

Emmanuel was diagnosed with Wilms’ tumor in December 2016. His mother was devastated and confused because she never knew that children could have cancer. It was indeed a big challenge for the family, as his sister had to stop schooling, and they had to move from Togo to Nigeria, leaving their businesses behind.

He is a bright child and knows the names of his doctors and the medications he takes. With the help of TDCF partners, Emmanuel received a scholarship and is now back in school, where he can play with his friends and learn the names of his teachers and primary school subjects.
