Rear Admiral Oladeinde Olusoga, JOSEPH was born at Ara-Moko, Ekiti state into the humble family of late Mr Joseph Owolabi and late Mrs Ajibabi Owolabi over 69 years ago. His father on discharge from the Army after the second World War had settled down in Ibadan where he had secured employment with the Public Works Department (PWD). Deinde’s early life was therefore with his grandfather at AraMoko.

Deinde is second of the 3 children; his late senior sister and the only brother Sunday, a Consultant Architect who lives in the USA. His father had moved around a lot in the early 50s; then working to erect superstructures in the then Western Region of Nigeria. Deinde was moved to continue schooling with an uncle in Ibadan; late Daddy ‘Gbode Ishola a devout Methodist at Agbeni in Ibadan. Up to this time he was an Anglican and now converted Methodist. His secondary and Primary education were therefore all at Methodist School 2 and foundation member of Methodist High School in Ibadan between 1956 and 1966.

Deinde enlisted into the Nigerian Navy in July 1967 and later graduated from the Nigerian Defence Academy Kaduna and commissioned as a Sub-Lieutenant in July 1971 in India. Deinde had received professional training as a naval ofcer in India, United Kingdom and the United States of America. He had the Basic ofcer training in India; specialist Navigation training in the UK. At various times in his service career, he was in Quantico, Virginia for Amphibious Warfare course and Naval Postgraduate School Monterey, California for Defense Management Course.

Deinde is also a graduate of the Nigeria Command and Staff College Jaji and National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies Kuru. As a professional naval ofcer, he went through all the ranks in the Navy until he was promoted to the full Rear Admiral rank in 1998. In the Navy, he had 4 sea commands which included that of NNS Aradu; the Navy’s ag ship, 2 Training bases and 2 Operational bases. He had 2 tours at Jaji Staff college as Chief Instructor and Director of the Naval Faculty. He was also the Military Governor of Ogun state between 1990 and 1992. His last job was Chief of Navy Personnel at Naval Headquarters until he retired in June, 1999.

Married to Mrs Katherine Lolade Joseph since April 1975 and blessed with 3 children; Toyin 42 now Mrs Borisade, and the boys Seyi 40 and Jide 34; all university graduates. His hobbies are photography, reading and a handicap 9 golfer. A practicing Christian of Methodist church of the Trinity, Tinubu since 1967, and also a Knight of John Wesley.
